Gramps Web v26.9.0 release notes

In case you haven’t noticed, a lot has been happening in Gramps Web’s backend, see the v3.22.0 release notes. If you thought work on the frontend had slowed down in the meantime, thing again – this is almost too much for a single release. Enjoy!

New features

You can now finally edit addresses! Implemented @karlvr in https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1360
You can now add and edit dates using non-Gregorian calendars, including Julian, French Revolutionary, Swedish, Hebrew, Persian, and Islamic. Implemented by @sharst in https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1380
At the bottom of each object view, there is now a list of the latest revisions of the object. Clicking on a revision takes you directly to the revision view where you can view the object’s diff. Added by @DavidMStraub in https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1376 based on a new feature in Gramps Web API v3.22.
The admin settings now show deprecation warnings when settings are used that will be removed in the future. Note that this is only visible if your user account is of type “Admin”. Onboarding improvements

A couple of usability improvements for users starting with an empty tree:

When creating a first person in an empty tree, this person is automatically set as the home person, so chart views become immediately usable https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1374

Tree chart improvements

A major refactoring of the tree charts has started under the hood (https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1397, https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1398, https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1399, https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1401, https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1402) – brace for new features in upcoming releases!

For the moment, there are a few small but noticeable visible improvements:

When selecting a new person, for large charts it is now ensured it is always visible on the screen, and the zoom level is kept https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1396
The object preview popups are now much less annoying in chart views: they are closed one pan, zoom and click https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1395, can be dismissed by pressing Escape, and open with an increased delay to prevent unwanted popups while moving the mouse over the chart https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps-web/pull/1403
The chart is now longer rebuilt when resizing it or toggling edit mode, so it should feel smoother (no flicker)
The relationship now longer shows a blank for unknown names, but an ellipsis like the other charts
